In the FactoryLogix Office client application, system administrators can create and manage roles and configure each role with specific permissions that allow access to different areas of the FactoryLogix system.
In your manufacturing environment, a role might correlate to a job title or job function, a specific process or physical area of the factory, or some other criteria. Roles are unique to each type of manufacturing and each organization. FactoryLogix allows you to create and manage roles using criteria that work for you. For example, when using a job-based approach, possible roles in a manufacturing environment might include: Design Engineer, Machine Operator, Assembly Technician, Manufacturing Production Technician, Quality Control Inspector, Production Manager, or Warehouse Associate. A Production Manager will need more permissions in the FactoryLogix system than a Machine Operator. Similarly, an Assembly Technician will require different permissions than a Design Engineer.
Note
Although you can add, modify, and delete roles at any time in FactoryLogix Office, we recommend you consider the roles you need to create before using the system. If you plan the basic roles you need first, you can fine-tune them and add more roles later as needed.
Default roles
FactoryLogix has two default roles that are specified in the Users and Roles area of FactoryLogix Office: Administrator and Everyone (user role):
The default Administrator role has all FactoryLogix permissions.

Important |
The default Administrator role has all FactoryLogix permissions plus all System Configuration settings: Users and Roles, Settings/Global Settings, Licensing, and Define Custom Fields. No other created role has access to these System Configuration settings. |
The default User role named Everyone has no FactoryLogix permissions.
Note
You can modify the default roles; however we recommend creating your own roles and not modifying the default roles—particularly the Administrator role.
