System Logging button

When configured and enabled, FactoryLogix system logging can help administrators quickly locate and identify system issues and resolve them quickly with minimal interruption to he factory. Log data helps IT personnel and system administrators quickly drill into application-related issues including pinpointing areas of poor system performance, assessing overall application health, and troubleshooting such as diagnosing and identifying the root cause of application and runtime errors.

 

Important

Only qualified IT personnel or Aegis deployment engineers should configure and manage system logging.

 

  1. Log onto the server or a machine where FactoryLogix Server Management is already installed. (The login account should have administrative rights to the database server if you are using Windows authentication.)

  2. Start FactoryLogix Server Management.

  3. Select System Logging.

  4. Under Log Type, select the type of log files you want to generate, then select Add.

    • Application

    • Soap

    • Sql

    • Windows Service

  5. When the prompt displays, locate and select the *.exe (executable) file for the selected log type, then select Open.

  6. Select the *.exe under Executable Name, then use the check boxes to select the Output Level for logging:

    • Error

    • Warn Info

    • Debug

    • Trace

    • File Dump

    • Environment Dump

  7. Under Misc Settings, specify the log file directory location and other logging options.

  8. Under Log File Deletion Settings, specify whether log files should be deleted by time or disk space threshold. 

    Logging will continue to fill the disk until the size threshold is reached. The number you specify represents the minimum disk space needed to allow logging. For example, if the threshold is set to 1GB, once the disk fills up with data (from logs or anything else) and it falls below that 1GB limit, logging will disable itself.

    To prevent log files from becoming too large or to control when or how often log files are created, you can specify log rollover settings. When a file size or specified time is reached, the current log file is closed; new log messages are written or "rolled over" to a new log file.

Note

Changing logging settings modifies the Windows Registry. After making any changes to logging, you must reopen Server Management with enhanced administrator rights for the logging settings to take effect and function properly. 

 

  1. Under Rollover Settings, specify the desired log rollover settings or select No Rollover.

  2. When you finish setting up your logging profile, select the Apply button in the lower-right corner of the window, then select Save Log Profile.

    You can load a different log profile using the Load Log Profile button.
