Command line parameters to auto-launch dashboards and slide shows

Using command line parameters, you can modify the properties of the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut you created to auto-launch dashboards and slide shows without manually selecting options from the iMonitor Viewer application. (See Create a desktop shortcut for iMonitor Viewer if you haven't yet created one.)

For true, hands-free automation, you can configure the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut to run dashboards and/or slide shows automatically at Windows startup. See the following procedure for details.

Use the following command line parameters, symbols, and rules to specify the dashboards and/or slide shows you want to auto-launch when you double-click the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut:

  • fullscreenmode - Launches iMonitor Viewer in full screen mode.

  • runslideshow - Starts the specified slide show automatically.

  • slideshow - Supply the slide show name after switching.

  • dashboard - Supply the dashboard name after switching.

Command symbols allowed:

  • --

  • -

  • /

  • :   in front of template names

Use the following rules when entering the command line details for the dashboard or slide show:

  • The command line must separate commands and template names with spaces.

  • If a template name is more than one word, it must be enclosed in double quotation marks ("), for example:

    <”application full name”>[space]<command symbol><command>[space]<:”file name 1”[space]”file name 2”>

Procedure

After you configure the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut properties using the command line parameters, you can run a selected dashboard or slide show automatically when you double-click the desktop shortcut or set up the shortcut to run automatically at Windows startup. Regardless of the auto start option you use, you need to ensure that you already granted access to the user or group whose machine the dashboards and slide shows will run on. Additionally, when running slide shows, be sure you set up the slide transitions ahead of time in iMonitor Viewer.

  1. Log into the Analytics client application, then select iMonitor Designer.

  2. Select File > Open, then locate and select the dashboard or slide show you want to run automatically.
  3. Select Save As.

  4. Use the options on the Grant Access tab to ensure that the dashboard or slideshow has the correct access permissions granted before you run it automatically in iMonitor Viewer, then select OK.
  5. Right-click the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut icon, then select Properties.

Now when you double-click the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut, the specified dashboard and/or slide show will run automatically.

  7. (Optional) To set up a dashboard and/or slide show to run automatically at Windows startup, do the following:

    • Drag and drop the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut icon you created and customized into your Windows Startup folder located here:

      C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

(Be sure to also enable viewing of hidden folders so you can see them.) The next time you start Windows, the specified dashboard and/or slide show will open and run automatically.

Run a dashboard or slide show from a command prompt

An optional way to open and run a dashboard or slideshow is to open a Command Prompt window, then enter the command line parameters for the dashboard and/or slideshow you want to run. Here's an example:

  • Log into the Analytics client application, select iMonitor Viewer, then open and run a dashboard or slide show from the application.
  • Double-check the command line parameters you set up in the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut Target field.
  • If configured to auto start a dashboard or slide show at Windows startup, open the Windows Startup folder, right-click the iMonitor Viewer shortcut, then double-check the command line parameters you set up in the iMonitor Viewer desktop shortcut Target field.
