Scheduling an appropriate time for your FactoryLogix upgrade will depend largely on the level of system already installed.

Typically, there are two system levels:

  • Factory office consists of the NPI client application, machine programming, and paper-based documentation.
  • MES consists of the NPI client application, machine programming, and paper-based documentation plus paperless documentation delivery and shop floor data collection and analysis.

The key goal with any upgrade is to minimize the impact to your production schedule and prevent any downtime during production. With that in mind, Factory office upgrades can occur at almost any time. MES upgrades must be planned during non-production hours or executed during a scheduled stop in production.

Assuming one person is doing the upgrade, a small Factory office installation of 1 to 5 users can be completed in under an hour (adding 30 minutes for every 5 users after that if ClickOnce is not used.)

MES systems can be upgraded within 2 hours. If ClickOnce is used, the clients will upgrade automatically at the next login. It will take between 30 seconds and 1 minute to upgrade each user. If full installations are used for the client applications, you should add 30 additional minutes for every 5 clients that require upgrading.
