In addition to specifying a part number in a Bill of Materials (BOM), you can specify a part revision to be used in the manufacturing process. When you import a BOM into a new assembly in NPI, you can also specify a part revision mode for each BOM line item when in Edit mode. The default revision mode is Use Latest—the most recently created part revision is the one required to satisfy any material setup requirements.

Note

...

The part revision mode is different from the alphanumeric value used for a part revision. For example, Revision A can be newer than Revision D if you want it to be (for any reason).

Option

Description

Use Latest

Operators must use the latest revision of a part.

Use Any

Operators may use any revision of the specified part.

Use Specific

Only the part revision specified in the BOM is accepted.

The part revision specified in the BOM or any newer version is acceptable.

Use Specific or Older

The part revision specified in the BOM or any older version is acceptable.

Be sure to pay attention to part revisions when adding material instances to the Inventory area of NPI or Production. When searching for a part number, several results may be displayed, depending on how many revisions of a part were created. For example, part number 110-34480 does not have a revision. Part number 110-34480 - C is the same part with a revision of C. This is indicated in the list as part number – revision with a hyphen between the two fields.
