Start the Archive service
To access and use data archiving features, the FactoryLogixArchive service must be running.
Log into FactoryLogix Server Management.
Select the Services Setting button.
Use the drop-down to select the operational FactoryLogix Database used for all other FactoryLogix services.
Select FactoryLogix Archive Service, then select the Start Service button.
Verify the Logged In As field displays a user with Windows Administrator rights on the server. (If not, update the user information by entering the User Name and Password under Update Service Logon Information, select the Update Logon Account button, then restart the necessary services.)
Create and configure an archive database
Before using the data archiving feature, you need to create and initialize a separate archive database.
Log into SQL Server Management Studio.
Create an empty database. (You must create the archive database as an empty SQL Server database on the same SQL server instance as the operational FactoryLogix Database.)
Log into the NPI client application.
In the NPI Home window, select System Configuration > Archiving.
Select the gear button on the left side of the window to display the Archive Settings and Scheduling window.
Enter or change the following options and settings in the Archive Settings and Scheduling window.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Enable Archiving and Restoring | Turns data archiving on or off. Set this flag to |
True |
to enable archiving features. | |
Archive Database Connection | Select the value to display a database selection window. Select the server and the empty database you created for archiving. After making and saving changes to this setting, the system will implement the archive database structure to this database (if it is blank). |
Note |
If you select a current archiving database, the database will be selected, but no changes will be made to the database contents. | |
Archive Server Name | Enter the name of the computer that is hosting the Archive service. |
Select record types for archiving
You can allow archiving functionality for specific types of records while disallowing it for others. Modify some or all the following settings to True to enable archiving for each type of record.
For a full list of the settings in the Archive Settings and Scheduling window, see Archive Settings and scheduling parameters.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Enable Assembly and Process Archiving and Restoring | Enables or disables archiving and restoring of assemblies and processes. |
Enable Batch/GRN Archiving and Restoring | Enables or disables archiving and restoring of batches and GRNs. |
Enable Restoring Individual Units | Enables or disables archiving and restoring of individual units from an archived batch. If Batch/GRN Archiving and Restoring is disabled, you should disable this setting. |
Enable Machine Performance Data Restoring and Rearchiving | Enables or disables restoring and rearchiving of machine performance data. |
Note |
Machine performance data can only be archived automatically. If you restore machine performance data manually, you can then rearchive it manually. |
Note
After you configure the archive database, we recommend restarting the Archiving service to apply the new settings and the database connection.
