Each batch attribute you import via an xTend xml file or create in NPI is available as a Smart Text selection in the NPI Process Definition window.
When you use the Insert Smart Text command on the Visual Aid Tools tab, batch attributes are available as Smart Text selections in the Text Properties dialog Smart Text drop-down. For example, if you added a batch attribute for Width, you can insert a Smart Text tag named %Width%.
