If system resources are enough, we recommend that you perform a full backup of your FactoryLogix database daily.
You use SQL Server Backup to back up a FactoryLogix database. Technically, there are no problems when backing up FactoryLogix databases online—end users and nightly batch jobs can continue to use FactoryLogix applications without problems, even when a backup is in progress.
Important!
SQL Server Backup consumes only a few CPU resources but does require I/O bandwidth because SQL Server will try to read every used extent to the backup device. (Everything required for FactoryLogix is included in one central SQL database.) For information about using SQL Server Backup, consult the Microsoft SQL Server documentation.
Use SAN technology to back up the database
Storage Area Network (SAN) is a specialized, high-speed network that provides block-level network access to storage. SANs are typically composed of hosts, switches, storage elements, and storage devices that are interconnected using a variety oftechnologies, topologies, and protocols.
To create faster online backups using SAN Technology, SQL Server offers interfacesfor SAN vendors to perform a Snapshot Backup or create a clone of a SQL Serverdatabase. However, backing up terabytes of data every night may overload your backup infrastructure. A second SAN option is to do a differential backup ofthe FactoryLogix database daily and a full database backup only on weekends.
