Aegis uses a four-octet versioning system for FactoryLogix software to create a balance between timely delivery of fixes and the controlled addition of new functionality and features.

The following table describes each version and what is included with that version at the time of release.

VersionOctet exampleDescription

Platform release

8.x.x.x

The first octet denotes the platform: 8.x

The first octet only changes with a new platform release.

Major release

8.181.x.x

The second octet denotes a major release version of FactoryLogix.

Major releases typically occur every 12 months. The primary focus of a major release is to enhance existing functionality and add new roadmap features to the software.

Hotfix release

8.181.4.x

The third octet denotes a hotfix release version of the software.

Important!

We strongly recommend that you adopt hotfix releases and complete your own in-house validation testing before upgrading your production environment.

Hotfix versions are released every 8 to 10 weeks and include bug fixes, enhancements and product customizations.

Note:

Version 7 has hotfix releases only, for example: 7.7.x.0.

Patch release

8.181.4.2

The fourth octet (a Patch to a Hotfix release) allows Aegis to make fixes to the system that address high-priority or critical issues with the FactoryLogix system.

The use of the fourth octet (and new installers) limits the need to manually apply single files to different parts of the system which can be time consuming.

There is no fixed time frame for Patch releases; they are created on demand to correct issues found in customer-installed systems.
