This topic provides basic instructions to create a BarTender barcode label template for use with the FactoryLogix system. For complete information about installing and using BarTender, see the Seagull Scientific website.

  1. Open the Bartender application, then select File > New to start the New Document Wizard that will guide you through the label template creation process.

  2. For this example, use the default Blank Template. Select Next.

  3. Continue through the New Document Wizard and select an appropriate available Printer, Stock Selection, Page Size, and Item Shape for your labels, then select Margins, Rows and Columns, Template Size, Printing Order, and Template Background. (To accept all default values, select a printer, then select Finish.)

  4. In the Select Barcode window, select the barcode image on the toolbar, then select More Barcodes to display a list of barcodes.

  5. Select a symbology compatible with your company's barcode scanners.

  6. Select the white area in the document window to create the barcode image, then use the sizing handles on the image to resize the barcode.

  7. Right-click the barcode and select Properties from the menu.

  8. Navigate to Data Sources and select the barcode label template you created.

  9. Select the Change Data Source Name button to the right of the Name field, then enter a name for this barcode label template. For this example, enter the name BoxSerial, then select OK.

  10. Select the Change Data Source Type button to the right of the Type field.

  11. Select Link to an Existing Named Data Source from the Type drop-down, then select Next.

  12. Select BoxSerial from the Data Source drop-down, then select Finish.

  13. Select Close to close the Barcode Properties dialog.

  14. Select  File > Save As, name your Bartender Label template, then select Save to save the template as a BarTender (*.btw) file. 

Now when users print barcodes from FactoryLogix, the data source you set up here for the BoxSerial label template will be replaced with data from FactoryLogix.
