A work instruction (also referred to as work guide, job aid, standard operating procedure, or visual aid as it's commonly referred to in FactoryLogix) is a document that describes to shop floor personnel how a part or assembly should be built, often using both text-based instructions and visual aids such as diagrams or photos.
In FactoryLogix, an Active Work Instruction is an interactive document that can include color-coded parts lists or BOM blocks (detailed parts list), smart text, graphics, callouts, and video. Shop floor personnel use Active Work Instructions to complete specific tasks in a manufacturing process.
In the NPI client application, you can create Active Work Instruction templates. These templates save time by eliminating the need to document new work instructions each time a new product or product revision is built. Using templates also helps you provide consistent instructions for shop floor personnel.
Log into the NPI client application.
Select Templates and Standards > Work Instruction Templates.
Select the New button, enter a Name and (optionally) a description for the template, then select OK.
On the Drawing Tools tab, select the Insert button, then select an item to add to the template from the Insert menu. (See Add items to a template.)
When you are finished, select the Template tab, then select the Save button.
Tip
If multiple templates use some of the same elements, you can select the Save As button on the Templates tab to save a version of an Active Work Instruction template with a different name, then modify that version without having to start over with a blank template.
