Align, size, and arrange dashboard items

When you create a dashboard in iMonitor Designer, you can use the tools at the top of the window to align, size, and arrange selected gadgets (gauges and numeric indicators, for example) and other items in the dashboard work area such as clocks, text and Smart Text labels, and shapes. The following table describes the tools.

Align to Grid

Aligns one or more selected items to the grid within the dashboard.

Align Lefts

Aligns selected items so that they are all left justified. The left edge of the last item you select is the determining left edge.

Align Centers

Aligns selected items so that they are all center justified. The center of the last item you select is the determining center location.

Align Rights

Aligns selected items so that they are all right justified. The center of the last item you select is the determining right edge.

Align Tops

Aligns selected items so that they are all top justified. The center of the last item you select is the determining top edge.

Align Middles

Aligns selected items so that they are all middle justified. The center of the last item you select is the determining middle location.

Align Bottoms

Aligns selected items so that they are all bottom justified. The center of the last item you select is the determining bottom edge.

Make Same Width

Adjusts the width of selected items so they are all the same width. The width of the last item you select is the determining width.

Make Same Height

Adjusts the height of selected items so they are all the same height. The height of the last item you select is the determining height.

Make Same Size

Adjusts the width of selected items so they are all the same width and height. The width and height of the last item you select is the determining width and height for all items.

Size to Grid

Adjust selected items to the size of the next grid point if the current size is in-between grid points. Both width and height are adjusted.

Make Horizontal Spacing Equal

Adjust the horizontal position of selected items so that each item is spaced equally in the horizontal plane. The spacing is determined by the item positioned farthest to the left (negative) of the dashboard and the item positioned farthest to the right (positive) of the dashboard.

Increase Horizontal Spacing

Adjusts the horizontal position (positive/right) of selected items by one grid point. The last item you select remains in a fixed position.

Decrease Horizontal Spacing

Adjust the horizontal position (negative/left) of selected items by one grid point. The last item you select remains in a fixed position.

Remove Horizontal Spacing

Removes the horizontal spacing from selected items.

Make Vertical Spacing Equal

Adjusts the vertical position of selected items so that each item is spaced equally in the vertical plane. The spacing is determined by the item positioned farthest to the top (negative) of the dashboard and the item positioned farthest to the bottom (positive) of the dashboard.

Increase Vertical Spacing

Adjusts the vertical position (positive/bottom) of selected items by one grid point. The last item you select remains in a fixed position.

Decrease Vertical Spacing

Adjusts the vertical position (negative/top) of selected items by one grid point. The last item you select remains in a fixed position.

Remove Vertical Spacing

Removes the vertical spacing from selected items.

Center Horizontally

Centers selected items in the horizontal position. The averaged position is determined by the item positioned farthest to the left (negative) of the dashboard and the item positioned farthest to the right (positive) of the dashboard.

Center Vertically

Centers selected items in the vertical position. The averaged position is determined by the item positioned farthest to the top (negative) of the dashboard and the item positioned farthest to the bottom (positive) of the dashboard.

Bring to Front

Moves one or more selected items in front of all overlapping items.

Send to Back

Moves one or more selected items behind all overlapping items.

Dashboard examples

The following dashboards have multiple text items, gauges, and numerical controls. The items were aligned, sized, and arranged using the tools described in the previous table to make the dashboards visually appealing and easy to read.
