The Change Part Number function allows you to change an existing part number quickly when scanning material that is already known to the system. For example, your factory might support part numbers for existing materials that are required to use brackets or specific part number suffixes in inventory (for example, to denote parts that have completed a certain required test or are classified differently from the original part number).

Note:

The permission to use the Change Part Number function is controlled by a setting on the Global Options tab in the NPI client application (NPI>System Configuration>Settings>Global Options>Logistics). If an administrator enables the setting for you, you will see the Change Part Number function on the left side of the Logistics window; when the setting is disabled, the Change Part Number function doesn't display.

  1. Log into the FactoryLogix website and select Logistics.
  2. Select Change Part Number on the left side of the window.

  3. Scan or enter the UID of the part number you want to change, then select the Submit Submit button button.

If the UID is recognized, the system determines whether that part number belongs to a bin that only accepts one part number per bin. The original part details are displayed, as shown in the following illustration. (When a Move to Stock action is required for the new part number, a Suggested Location is also displayed.)

  4. To search for the new part number, select the Search Part Number Find Part Number button button.
  5. In the Search Part Number dialog, enter (or locate and select) the desired new part number, then select the Select button.

  6. (Optional) Select the Start Over button to select a different UID.

    Note:

When a part number is being changed, there may be a rule on a stock location allowing only one part number per stock location. The system evaluates whether the newly changed part number is required to move to a new bin. If a Move to Stock action is needed for the new part number, you are prompted to select a different stock location.

  7. Select the Change Part Number Submit button button.

    Note:

Notice that when you select the Submit Submit button button, it is replaced with a verification button (check mark) Change Part Number button to indicate the part number change was accepted.

  8. When you see the verification message at the top of the window, select the Complete Task button at the bottom of the window to finalize the part number change.

If printer properties aren't already defined when you select the Submit button, the Print Settings dialog displays.

    Printer Properties dialog

  9. Use the Standard Label Printer drop down to select the desired label printer.
  10. Use the Select Template drop down to select the desired printer template for this part number: GRN Label or Material Simple, for example.

When both printer properties are defined, the label will print and the window resets for the next UID to scan.

    Note:

For any UIDs that have an associated Government UID, two labels are printed, one for the initial UID with the part number change and one for the Government UID with the part number change.

  11. Select Save to save your print selections for this part number.

You will see a message indicating that the part number change is complete.

    Note:

A Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) identifies important details behind each activity in the manufacturing process. Project managers can use WBS information to eliminate unknowns and to identify variables that could impact manufacturing progress. Please note that WBS information can only be added to FactoryLogix by using an xTend integration.
