When you use Smart Text tags in an Active Work Instruction, the tags you select are replaced with data from a specific source. For example, %AssemblyName% is a smart text tag that is replaced by the actual assembly name in the Active Work Instruction. If you change the assembly name, the text is updated automatically in the Active Work Instruction.

Note:
You can create custom Smart Text tags using the Define Custom Fields window (NPI > System Configuration > Define Custom Fields). Select a category, select the Add 
button, enter the custom field name, then select OK. The custom field will display as an available Smart Text tag for the active work instruction.
