When you use the Import from Document or Link To Document tool to link an Excel workbook to a process step or activity, a new option allow you to populate cells in the spreadsheet with batch attribute data. For each item, you specify the cell or cell range and then define from which batch attribute to populate that cell or cells. This can be especially useful in environments where Excel workbooks are used to make calculations or run macros on such data.

Once an Excel document is linked or embedded in a step or activity, a new settings button will appear in the document toolbar. This settings button will launch the Excel Document Link Parameter Settings dialog so that you may define which batch attribute data will populate which cell.
