The barcode setup options you use to define top and bottom barcode scanners/readers.

  1. Select the Setup button to the right of the xLink adapter name in the lower-right corner of the inForce application's Device Configuration window.

  2. To associate a barcode scanner with a specific board side, select the Discover Top Scanner or Discover Bottom Scanner button on the toolbar at the bottom of the window, then scan any barcode with the desired barcode scanner.

Once associated, the inForce device "knows" which side of the board the scan is intended to represent.

    Note:

If you don't configure the board top and bottom sides, inForce operates exactly as the first generation of inForce devices: the scan is associated to the next logical operation in the process flow that still needs a WIP record.

Keyboard mode

Under certain circumstances, when a barcode scanner can't be discovered as a true HID barcode scanner, you can place the inForce device into Keyboard mode to utilize a barcode scanner in keyboard wedge mode. If you use Keyboard mode, you must modify or post-process the barcode scanner's output by including square brackets around the scanned data.

For example, if the barcode scanned is 12345, the output from the scanner must be entered as \[12345\]. The brackets tell the inForce device when to start and stop listening for input from the scanner. Again, this is only necessary when a scanner is used which is not truly HID compliant.

  • To use Keyboard mode, select the Keyboard toolbar button at the bottom of the window. (The Keyboard setting will be retained even after you reboot the inForce device.)
