When you select Board Geometry in the Machine List window of FactoryLogix Office, you see a toolbar containing tools that help you create fiducials, convert fiducials to components, change board orientation, display board components, and make other adjustments for the selected machine interface.

Important

The Board Geometry functions for the machine interface are similar to the options available in the Design ECAD area of the Process Definition tree. The edits you make to the board definition in the machine interface are specific to that machine interface. In effect, Board Geometry functions serve as a definition layer above the globally available ECAD definition for the assembly in the Design/ECAD node of the Process Definition tree.

Why would you make local edits to a board in the Board Geometry area?

  • The board needs to be processed in a different orientation for this machine than the orientation defined in the global process definition (Design/ECAD node of the Process Definition tree).

  • This machine uses a different origin point than the origin point defined in the global process definition (Design/ECAD node of the Process Definition tree).

  • This machine uses different locations/features for the fiducials defined in the global process definition (Design/ECAD node of the Process Definition tree).

Defines the datum (0,0 point) of the board.

  • Select an area of the board for the 0,0 point (origin) of the board.

Snap To Feature

  • Select the Snap To Feature to locate the datum at the coordinates closest to the corner you click on the board image after selecting Assign Origin.

Create Fiducial

Adds fiducials to the board for machine programming purposes.

  1. Select Create Fiducial, then select the area of the board where you want the fiducial.

    Fiducial Properties dialog

  2. Select the desired Fiducial Type and other settings in the Fiducial Properties dialog, then select OK.

  3. If the fiducial is defined properly for the board, select Finish (check mark) in the upper-right corner of the window.

Edit Fiducial

Used to edit an existing fiducial.

  1. Select a fiducial on the board image, then select Edit Fiducial.

  2. Modify the fiducial information in the Fiducial Properties dialog, then select OK.

Convert to Component

Converts a selected fiducial to a component.

From Lead

Creates a fiducial from a selected existing component lead.

  • Select From Lead, select the lead on the board image, then select Finish (check mark) in the upper-right corner of the window.

Show All Fiducials

Displays a table of all fiducials on the board

Select a fiducial from the table to see it in a zoomed-in view.

Board Orientation

Allows you to rotate the board's orientation by 90 degrees.

Top Side

Displays the top side of the board.

Bottom Side

Displays the bottom side of the board.

Show Components
