Evaluate driver and firmware updates
administrator
A commodity server is a commodity computer dedicated to running server programs and associated tasks. In many environments, multiple low-end servers share the workload. Commodity servers are often considered disposable and, as such, are replaced rather than repaired. Historically, there have been critical issues due to bugs in hardware drivers and firmware within commodity servers. In addition, hardware companies don't always provide enough support services to commodity server customers.
It is your responsibility to manage updates to hardware drivers and firmware regularly. We recommend that you evaluate and test all updates before installing them in your FactoryLogix production system.
Important
Before updating hardware drivers or firmware on production commodity servers, be sure to them in your test and sandbox systems. A minor flaw in a driver of a Host Bus Adapter (HBA) or SCSI card could potentially cause physical inconsistencies within a database!
