Before you can use the inForce 2.0 unit in production, you need to set up the appropriate connections between the inForce device and machines and add a new xLink adapter to an existing xLink Server (your Aegis Deployment Engineer can help you with this step). After you create an Aegis line attendant xLink adapter instance on your xLink Server, you are ready to power up the device.
Connect the SMEMA cable from the OUT connector of the previous conveyor or machine to the UPSTREAM connector on the top of the inForce device.
This is the machine or conveyor from which inForce is receiving the PCB.
Warning
Use extreme caution—do not reverse the SMEMA connections!
Connect the DOWNSTREAM connector to the next machine's IN connector.
This is the machine the inForce unit will transfer the PCB to after a valid barcode is scanned.Connect the Ethernet jack to your company's network.
Important
The network connection must be on the same subnet as the xLink Server. By default, inForce will use DHCP to obtain an IP address. (See the appendix at the end of this document for details about advanced IP configuration.)
Connect one or more barcode scanners to the USB ports.
For the initial setup, connect the inForce device to an HDMI monitor.
Important
If you skip Step 5, the screen resolution will default to a small (and possibly unusable) size of 640x480 and may cause visibility issues if connected to a different monitor after the initial setup is completed.
Connect the power using only the 5V power adapter supplied with the inForce device.
Warning
You must use the 5V power adapter supplied with the inForce device—using any other power supply will void your warranty!
Turn on the inForce device.
When you turn on the inForce device for the first time, Windows 10 IoT Core must complete a process called provisioning. During this critical step, the operating system ensures that all relevant device drivers are present and sets the display resolution of the HDMI monitor you connected to the inForce device. The device is named inforcexxxxx automatically, where xxxxxx is a 5-digit random number.
Warning
The provisioning process can take 5 or 6 minutes to complete and the device will reboot one or more times. Do not remove power from the device while this process is under way—even if it looks like the device isn't doing anything!
You may see the Windows 10 IoT Core splash screen. The process is complete after a final reboot and the Aegis logo displays.
After you turn on the inForce device, you see the message: "The inForce device is currently in pairing mode. Please discover device from FactoryLogix NPI application." Now you're ready to add an inForce xLink adapter and connect to your default xLink Server in the NPI client application. See Add an xLink adapter and connect to the xLink Server for details.
