Kitting is packaging all the parts needed to manufacture a product or assembly into what’s referred to as a kit. Kitting is an efficient way to optimize for your specific manufacturing needs, and a kit can be issued with a single part number and a single bar code. Kits are typically delivered directly to the point of use in a factory in a short period of time.
A kit group is a sub-kit of the overall list of materials needed to build a product or assembly that must be delivered to a specific area of the factory. For example, in printed circuit board manufacturing, an overall kit might be broken down into two distinct kit groups: one for the SMT area and one for the through-hole area as shown in the following illustration.
Kit groups are set up in the Logistics area of the NPI client application. NPI administrators can set up as many kit groups as needed, then associate one or more resource types with each kit group.
Note
A single resource type may only be assigned to one kit group.
