(de) Initialization activity

Introduction

When you create an Initialization step, an Initialization activity is created automatically in the Process Definition window.

Double-clicking an Initialization activity in the Process tree displays the Settings dialog that contains multiple options to help you customize the activity:

  • The Instruction tab contains the initialization instructions for shop floor operators in Production.

  • The Activity Details tab of the Settings dialog for an Initialization activity also has options for changing a product during production (for example changing a product from a base type into one or more specialized end products). These options allow for existing barcodes to be initialized into a batch, effectively eliminating the need to use the existing Change Product functionality in FactoryLogix. With these additional options, process engineers can decide whether to allow operators to perform a product change during initialization and specify the type of product changes that may be performed. (See Use Change Product for more information.)

Note

Depending on the configuration, in Production the Initialization step may prompt the shop floor operator for a carrier and/or panel UID in addition to individual product UIDs.

  • The Option Codes tab allows you to assign option codes to BOM line items (for CTO assemblies only).

  • The Part Assignments tab allows you to specify custom color coding/sorting for parts.

Formatting tab toolbar

The Formatting tab toolbar allows you to change text characteristics such as font, font size, style, alignment, color, and so on. These tools are similar to those found in popular word processing programs such as Microsoft Word.

Tip

Hover over any of the toolbar buttons on the Formatting tab to see a description and a keyboard shortcut (if one exists).

Description

Label Printing Mode

Specifies how unit labels will be printed at the time of initialization:

  • Use Default - The default label printing mode will be used.

  • No Print and Manual Initialization - No label will be printed for the Initialization activity.

  • Print and Manual Initialization - A label will be printed for the Initialization activity and initialization will be done manually by the operator by entering or scanning a barcode.

  • Print and Auto Initialization - A label will be printed for the Initialization activity and initialization will be done automatically for each unit.

Treat as Panel

(Electronics) Specifies how each unit will be treated:

  • No - Each unit will not be treated as a panelized PCB.

  • Yes - Each unit will be treated as a panelized PCB.

  • Yes and Allow Temporary Placeholders - The unit will be treated as a panelized PCB and temporary barcode placeholders are permitted.

  • Yes and Auto Generate Panel Barcode - The unit will be treated as a panelized PCB and a barcode for the panel is generated automatically.

Initialize Units

Specifies the units that require initialization:

  • Only New Units - Only new units may be initialized.

  • Only Existing Units - Only existing units may be initialized. (Select the Change Product Options Change Product Options buttonbutton (the gear) to display additional options for existing units that may be initialized.)

  • New and Existing Units - Both new and existing units may be initialized. (Select the Change Product OptionsChange Product Options button button (the gear) to display additional options for new and existing units that may be initialized.)

  • Change Product Options (available if you selected Only Existing Units or New and Existing Units under Initialize Units).

Note

The Change Product Options selections include a set of verifications to help secure the Initialization activity against operator error in production. The validations are performed prior to the actual change product. If one of the selected validations fails, no further action may be performed.

Change Product options

  • Enforce Barcode Templates - All unit barcodes must match the predefined barcode template.

  • Change Assembly Revision - Allows the operator to change the assembly revision for units being initialized.

  • Validate Source Assembly - Ensures that each unit barcode is originating from the selected source assembly and revision—only those barcodes are entitled to a product change. (You can select multiple source assemblies and revisions if needed.)

Use the Select Assembly Select Assembly button button to display the Assembly Selector dialog where you can search for and select the assembly (or assemblies) that will be used to validate the initialization of each unit.

    Assembly Selector dialog

  • Allow All Revisions of Source Assembly - Allows all revisions of the source assembly to be used for validation.

  • Auto-DePanel - Depanelizes panelized assemblies automatically.

  • Change Assembly - Allows the operator to change the assembly. This setting outlines the maximum possible degree of barcode change. and allows the operator to switch to a completely different assembly (that is, a different item type and revision). The batch change from Change Existing Barcodes to Batch is to be performed as well.

  • Validate Source Assembly Route Completed - Verifies that the route belonging to the barcode’s current assembly is fully completed and each Initialization activity has a positive result.

  • Source Assembly - Allows the process designer to select one or more assemblies to be used for the change product activity at the Initialization activity.

Use Carriers

If you select No for the Treat as Panel option, the Use Carriers check box is enabled. Select the Carrier Options Settings button (the gear) to display additional options when using carriers.

Carrier Options

  • Allow Initializing New Carriers - Allows new carriers to be initialized.

  • Empty Carrier with existing items - Automatically empties any carrier that contains existing items prior to initialization.

  • Carrier Type - Checks for the correct carrier type to be used for the Initialization activity.

  • Carrier Image - Select the ellipsis (...) to the right of this option, locate and select an image of the carrier to be used for the Initialization activity, then select OK.

  • Carrier Position Settings - As soon as you add a carrier image, it displays in a new window where you can either create carrier positions manually using the Create Position button and drag them onto the image or create a position matrix using the Create Matrix button.
